A buyer comparing industrial tools may need a specification sheet before ordering and a maintenance manual afterwards. Putting both documents into a long product description makes ownership, translation and access difficult to manage. A Magento product attachments extension gives those files a separate catalog workflow, but the useful differences concern permissions, reuse and integration rather than the number of supported file extensions.
This comparison covers Amasty Product Attachments, Mageplaza Product Attachments and Mageworx File Downloads and Product Attachments. All three are Magento extensions for distributing product documentation. Research was checked on October 23, 2026 using official product pages, manuals and license terms. This is a documentation-based assessment; no hands-on testing or measured conversion improvement is claimed.
What should a document workflow accomplish?
Separate public buying information from documents intended for customers after purchase. A safety certificate may belong on every relevant product, while a customer-specific document should not become a public download merely because its link is hidden. Define who can obtain each document, where it appears, who replaces it and how translations are assigned. Then compare extensions against that model.
Also distinguish an attachment library from Magento downloadable products. These modules help publish supporting material; they do not automatically establish a paid digital-product entitlement system. For an electronics catalog, a single revised manual may need to serve many SKUs without leaving obsolete copies attached elsewhere.
| Product | Document workflow emphasis | Cost and integration checkpoint |
|---|---|---|
| Amasty Product Attachments | Reusable files, widgets and a separate Pro feature boundary | Basic versus Pro; subscription-dependent companion modules |
| Mageplaza Product Attachments | Product assignment, access rules and customer download records | $149 Community or $349 Enterprise/Cloud first year observed |
| Mageworx File Downloads and Product Attachments | Document sections, import/export and API integrations | $149 Open Source; Commerce selection adds $149 |
Amasty Product Attachments
Amasty’s product page positions its extension around a reusable attachment collection. Basic includes product/category/CMS presentation, download reporting and bulk import; Pro adds document grouping, page-type attachments, API management and expanded import/export capabilities. Basic and Pro are editions of this single product, not separate alternatives.
The operational appeal is central ownership. A catalog editor can replace a shared document rather than maintain independent copies for every product. That is useful when several tools share a certificate, but the team still needs a convention for model years and revisions. Reusing the wrong file consistently is no better than duplicating it inconsistently.
The current manual identifies separate GraphQL and Pro API packages. It also identifies Hyvä packages for the base and Pro functionality, plus subscription-dependent import/export additions. Ask for the complete Composer package list for the purchased plan. A feature visible in the demonstration is not sufficient evidence that every dependency is included in the base install.
Version 3.6.1 release notes explicitly add Magento 2.4.9 and PHP 8.5. The page also lists maintained 2.4.5 through 2.4.8 patch branches. Obtain edition-specific confirmation for Magento Open Source or Adobe Commerce and your exact patch. Luma and Hyvä presentation should be assessed separately; a GraphQL endpoint still requires work in a custom PWA.
Strength: a clear route from shared basic documents to organized Pro libraries. Limitation: the plan and companion-package boundaries require careful purchasing. Selected edition prices and the next renewal amount were not reliably confirmed in the retrieved selector, so request those figures rather than using a generic starting price. Amasty’s license is per Magento installation; confirm how your production, staging and multi-website topology is registered.
Mageplaza Product Attachments
Mageplaza Product Attachments offers configurable placement, file groups, bulk imports and attachments in order emails. Its access options include login and purchase-status conditions, while a download log gives administrators a record of customer interactions. The product page describes a 25MB file limit; server and email limits can impose smaller practical ceilings.
For a wholesale catalog, evaluate whether account-level and order-status rules express the actual document policy. For example, a prospect might see a public datasheet while a purchaser receives a maintenance guide after completion. Check direct-link behavior as well as the visible block. This is an acceptance scenario to run on staging, not a claim that the module has been audited for confidential documents.
The manual explains assignment and display configuration. Give product-specific attachments and general rules deliberate priorities. Otherwise an editor may add a correct new file without realizing that an older general attachment still appears in another position. Include translations and disabled files in the review.
The current page shows version 4.2.8; its August 2026 notes identify Magento 2.4.9 and PHP 8.4 compatibility. The advertised range is 2.4.4–2.4.9, with separate Community and Enterprise/Cloud purchasing. Hyvä and API/GraphQL are advertised, but the FAQ distinguishes theme support from checkout fallback. Confirm the exact packages and PHP constraints; do not infer PHP 8.5 or a finished PWA component from those badges.
Strength: access-oriented document operations alongside catalog placement. Limitation: permission rules and email distribution need operational design. Observed first-year prices are $149 Community and $349 Enterprise/Cloud, including one year of updates and support. The precise renewal charge was not confirmed. The license covers one live Magento installation and unlimited test installations; separate live installations require separate licenses.
Mageworx File Downloads and Product Attachments
Mageworx’s extension combines product documents with reusable sections, bulk upload, import/export, download statistics and order-related delivery. The manual documents widgets and CMS placement, so the same library can support a product page and a more general resource area.
This is an attractive structure for a technical catalog whose document organization does not exactly match merchandising categories. A resource section might group installation instructions across several product families. Keep that taxonomy understandable: a library organized for engineers should still make the right document obvious to a first-time buyer.
Version 3.3.0 is displayed, and current release notes add Magento 2.4.9 and PHP 8.5. The guide covers Open Source, Commerce and Commerce Cloud. Product material mentions Luma, Hyvä, Venia and ScandiPWA; the manual explains a free DownloadsGraphQl add-on. Verify the matching Hyvä/PWA integration packages and versions before treating those storefront references as a complete deployment plan.
The observed price is $149 for Open Source, with $149 added for Commerce or Commerce Cloud. One year of support and updates is included. Subsequent annual updates/support are offered at 40% off the then-applicable edition list price, without recurring payments. That wording means paying 60% of the relevant list price, not a 40% renewal charge. Installation and priority support are additional options.
Strength: structured libraries and explicit API documentation. Limitation: additional integrations and a document taxonomy bring implementation work. Licensing is based on a Magento production installation; do not multiply licenses merely for store views, or assume separate installations are covered.
How to choose and verify the total cost
Start with a small document map: a public PDF, a purchaser-only guide, a translated certificate and a shared revision used by several products. Ask each vendor to demonstrate those exact paths on your Magento edition, PHP version and storefront. Include guest access, customer groups, canceled orders and direct download links in the acceptance plan.
Budget document migration and maintenance alongside the license. Someone must remove personal metadata, supply accessible PDFs, confirm redistribution rights and own replacement dates. Large attachments in transactional email also consume delivery capacity. A download count does not prove that a buyer understood a document, and an API alone does not supply a usable headless interface.
Choose Amasty when the Basic/Pro library split matches a planned progression in document management. Choose Mageplaza when purchase-related access and catalog-editor rules dominate the requirement. Choose Mageworx when organized sections and documented integration paths are central. The clearest choice is the product that can reproduce your document policy with the fewest exceptions.
